Constellations

We learned about stars and constellations. We thought it would be cool to design our own constellations. First we made a plan and then we marked out the positions of our stars on black paper. We used glue and glitter to make our constellations sparkly. The first picture shows our plan. The second picture shows our constellation. The third picture shows what it would look like if we join the stars up with imaginary lines to make the picture of our constellation.

Birds

We have made some fantastic papier maché birds. We worked in groups of three at first by using papier maché and long balloons. When they were hard enough, Miss Ní Fhloinn cut them in three so we each had a cylinder. We made a cone from card and attached it to the front of the cylinder to make a beak, making sure to papier maché over the join.

We chose which type of wing shape we would like for our bird and we traced the shape onto corrugated card. We worked in pairs because it is important to keep the template still when tracing, so we helped each other to do that. We attached the wings to the bird and made sure to papier maché very securely over the top.

When everything was dry and solid, we did one final, white paper layer so that the birds would be easier to paint. We had fun painting our birds and making them colourful.

Finally, we stuck on eyes, legs and fancy tails made from strips of paper. Now they are flying above us in the classroom and we think they are superb! They even flap their wings.
